Famed television talk show host Tom Snyder died in San Francisco on Sunday after a long battle with leukemia. Snyder was 71.
Snyder gained fame hosting the late night talk show “The Tomorrow Show” on NBC that followed “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson. Best remembered for prodding his guests with detailed questions and smoking throughout his broadcast Snyder hosted the show from 1973-1982.
Among the notable guests that appeared on Snyder’s show were Charles Manson, Johnny Rotten, Ayn Rand, KISS, U2’s first American television appearance, and the last television interview with John Lennon.
NBC canceled ‘The Tomorrow Show” in 1982 to make room for David Letterman but Snyder would return to late night in 1995 when he hosted “The Late Late Show with Tom Snyder” until 1998.
